The International Academy of Public Health (IAPH) is a multi-disciplinary professional development academy for the public health workforce. As a specialized academy, IAPH provides diverse fields of study, programs, and courses.
Those training courses range from long-term, mid-, and short-term training in numerous areas of public health. They aim to contribute to the development of public health services across countries in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) by building the capacity of the public health workforce.
IAPH is not mere addition to the number of public health educational institutions in the EMR, rather, it is unique in promoting a practice-led type of public health education based on a residency model.
This contrasts with the conventional model of academic and theoretical education, which, though useful, is not in line with producing graduates with required competencies commensurate with the current realities and challenges in the public health sector.
To achieve its mission, IAPH offers diverse fields of study, programs, and courses that utilize learning methods and teach skills to be immediately applied in the field.
IAPH’s professional training programs aim to enhance leadership and performance of the public health system and improve people’s health and health care at the national and regional levels. IAPH is now taking large steps to contribute to filling the nationally identified gaps in public health knowledge and practices.
Capacity building is at the core of IAPH’s mission; we believe that improving knowledge and skills of our residents and trainees can be immediately applied, enabling them to perform their duties more effectively and efficiently.
IAPH vision is to attain excellence in public health education, capacity, and innovation at regional and global spheres.
To promote the public health workforce mass capable of addressing the challenges of strengthening national health systems and improving population health in the Region and beyond.
To design and deliver quality postgraduate educational and training programs on different public health subject matters to fill existing and emerging regional gaps.
IAPH works towards the following three strategic objectives:
- Building up and strengthening institutional governance for IAPH.
- Introducing diverse and quality set of public health education and training programs.
- Scaling up public health science, practice, and professionalism.
IAPH believes in the role of partnerships for the exchange of knowledge and experience. These partnerships include curricula development, participation in training, and mentoring.
We work with our partners to identify their training needs and, accordingly, offer tailored solutions.
Trainings can also be customized for different durations to fit various organizations' needs.
IAPH’s targeted partners are ministries of health, public health institutes, academic institutes, and national and international organizations.
Teaching Faculty and Instructors:
IAPH has a pool of highly professional trainers who are both content experts and teaching masters. Trainers and instructors have regional and international experience from over 12 countries in the EMR, Europe and the US. Expertise range from field, academia, governmental and non-governmental organizations.
