Professional Training for Public Health Workforce

The International Academy of Public Health (IAPH) is a multi-disciplinary professional development academy for the public health workforce. As a specialized entity, IAPH provides diverse training programs in numerous areas of public health to contribute to the development of health services within and outside the region, through building the capacity of health workforce. To achieve its mission, IAPH provides short and long-term training programs that utilize adult learning methods and teach skills that can be immediately applied in the field. IAPH’s professional training programs are aimed at enhancing the leadership and performance of the health system and improving health and health care nationally and internationally. Although IAPH is newly established; it is now moving in quick steps to contribute to filling the gaps in public health knowledge and practices. Capacity building is at the core of IAPH’s mission, as we believe that, by improving the knowledge and skills of our trainees this will enable them to perform their duties more effectively and efficiently.

Program Modalities

IAPH provides both in-class and online training options. Examples of training modalities are as follows:

Short Courses: One to two weeks courses that go in-depth on specific topic of learning.

Professional Graduate Certificate (PGCert) Programs: Using the Sandwich Training Model (STM), short courses are interspersed with field work. Their duration is twelve weeks and includes five weeks of in-class learning and seven weeks of mentored field work.

Diploma Programs: A series of three PGCert programs from the same field of study, the duration adds up to nine months and results in a diploma of professional development.

Trainings can also be customized for different lengths to fit the needs of a variety of organizations.

Teaching Faculty and Instructors

IAPH has a pool of highly professional trainers who are both content experts and teaching masters. Trainers and instructors have regional and international experience from over 12 countries in the region, Europe and the US. Experiences range from field, academia, governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Accreditation and Certification

The academy provides the highest standards of universally accredited training in health education. All training curricula follow international standards for competencies and are accredited by APHEA (Agency for Public Health Education Accreditation), a European accrediting body for academic public health programs.


IAPH believes in the role of partnerships for the exchange of knowledge and experience. These partnerships include curricula development, participation in training and mentoring. The academy’s major partners are ministries of health, public health institutes, academic institutes and national and international organizations.
